US multinational company Maxim Integrated Products is to create 100 jobs in Dublin by 2012. The firm, which produces semiconductor products, will recruit 50 staff within the next six months.

This is the Silicon Valley-based technology firm's first investment in Ireland. It is being backed by IDA Ireland. The company manufactures microchip products used in a range of portable and consumer devices such as mobile phones, laptops, cameras and televisions.

Maxim is setting up a new international business, financial and technical customer services centre in Dublin. This will serve the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, along with parts of Asia.

The centre will initially employ accountants, financial analysts, supply-chain specialists, information technology (IT) technicians, and multilingual customer service staff.

'We are investing in Ireland because the country has a talented and technically qualified workforce, and it has demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting R&D,' said Tunc Doluca, Maxim's president and CEO.
