New research indicates that the number of people visiting Dublin's two main shopping streets has remained steady despite the sharp drop in spending.
Property consultant CB Richard Ellis said an average of 20,800 people per hour shopped on Henry Street on Saturdays during the fourth quarter of this year, while the figure for Grafton Street was 21,200.
CBRE said these figures were consistent with footfall over the last six years and were above the long-term average for both streets.
CBRE director of research Marie Hunt said the analysis showed that people were still visiting the capital's main shopping streets in high numbers, but were more cautious about spending.
Last week, the latest CSO figures showed that the volume of retail sales in October was just over 9% down compared with the same month last year.
