The average house price fell €33,000 in the first ten months of the year, new figures show.

The house price index, compiled by Permanent TSB and the ESRI, fell by another 1.8% in October, bringing the drop over the previous 12 months to 13.9%.

The average price for a house nationally in October 2009 was €228,347.

At the peak of house prices, in February 2007, the average national price was €311,078. Since then, house prices have fallen almost 27%.

House prices in Dublin fell by 2.6% in October, while prices in the rest of the country fell by 1%.

In the 12 months to October, house prices in Dublin fell 19.1%, and 11.5% outside Dublin.

The Permanent TSB/ESRI index is based on the agreed sale price and is calculated using data from mortgage drawdowns.
