The Commercial Court has granted a judgement for €37.5m to Anglo Irish Bank against hotelier Hugh O'Regan.
The judgement includes more than €11m in personal borrowings by Mr O'Regan. It also includes guarantees he gave the bank for loans to two of his companies - almost €4m for Thomas Read Holdings Ltd (TRH) and €22.5m for Clubko.
Mr Justice Peter Kelly said Mr O'Regan had not demonstrated an arguable ground of defence for failing to repay the loans loans. He granted the bank judgement in the sum of just over €37.5m. He also awarded costs against Mr O'Regan.
Lawyers for Mr O'Regan asked for a stay in the event of an appeal and also said Mr O'Regan had not had a chance to verify the amount of interest charged by the bank since these proceedings began in September.
Mr Justice Kelly refused a stay except on the amount of interest charged since September.
He said Mr O'Regan could come back into court on Monday if he had an issue with the bank's figures but he warned that this could lead to Mr O'Regan running up additional costs.
