German economy - Demand stays weak

German retail sales fell for the second consecutive month in September, in a sign that household demand remains weak.

September retail sales declined 0.5% from August, figures released by the federal statistics office showed. Analysts had forecast an increase of 0.7% after sales plummeted 1.8% in August.

There was an annual fall of 3.9% in September, the figures showed.
