Bord Gáis says it will invest €2.5 billion in a number of projects over the next five years. Chief executive John Mullins told the Cork Chamber of Commerce the investments would include an energy efficiency initiative which would create 250 jobs by the end of next year.
The €2.5 billion includes the previously announced €400m Whitegate power plant, a €1.2 billion investment in wind energy projects and €300m in electricity peaking plants.
The company plans to launch a Home Service Initiative, which it says will offer home owners a range of 22 separate products and services aimed at improving energy efficiency. Mr Mullins says these will help people reduce their energy bills.
