Willis latest to make Irish switch

Another company has announced that it is transferring its corporate headquarters from Bermuda to Ireland.

Global insurance broker Willis Group said Ireland offered a long history of international investment and long-established commercial relationships, trade agreements and tax treaties with EU member states, the US and other countries where Willis did business.

It also said there would be tax benefits to the switch. The company already operates in Ireland. Willis has more than 400 offices in nearly 120 countries and employs around 300 people in Ireland.

The move is part of a trend among US companies. Others which have switched from Bermuda to Ireland in recent months include healthcare products maker Covidien, electrical products maker Cooper Industries, management consultancy Accenture and Ingersoll-Rand.
