Official figures show that the numbers travelling into and out of Ireland continued to fall in July.
The Central Statistics Office said just under 759,800 trips were made by Irish people overseas in July, a drop of 11.3% compared with July last year.
The number of trips by overseas visitors to Ireland dropped 9.1% to 759,600, with falls in all markets. Visits from Britain were down 8%, while trips from the rest of Europe were 11.2% lower and North American visits dropped 5.1%.
For the first seven months of this year, trips by Irish people abroad are down just over 10% on the same period last year, at 4.2 million. Visits to Ireland are also running 10% lower at 4.1 million, with trips from Britain down 14.4% and North American visits down 4.6%.
Separate CSO figures showed that planning permissions for 12,831 homes were granted in the second quarter of this year, a drop of 35.7% on the same period last year. The figure for houses showed a fall of 38.6%, while apartments were down 30.7%.
