Green Party chairman Dan Boyle has warned that his party's support for the NAMA legislation can not be taken for granted.
In recent days both the Taoiseach and the Minister for Finance have expressed confidence that the Greens will back the legislation, possibly after some amendments.
Last week, the Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny said his party would vote against the legislation when it comes before the Dáil in September.
Today Senator Boyle said the Greens had an internal process to complete and their members would ultimately make a decision.
Meanwhile, a Fianna Fail backbench TD has said he would require many more 'assurances' from the Finance Minister before he could vote in favour of the proposed NAMA legislation.
Tipperary South's Mattie McGrath said he has received a 'huge' amount of calls from people worried about the NAMA legislation, some of whom he said are demanding a 'referendum' on the NAMA plan.
Deputy McGrath said it appears that a 'few hundred bankers' had brought the country to its knees and that the tax payer would have to pick up the bill.
The TD said the cost of the bad loans was akin to a 'wild animal' running through the woods and no one is sure where it will stop.
He added that he could not trust the Department of Finance given its record in dealing with the banking crisis to date.
