British American Tobacco, the maker of Dunhill cigarettes, has appointed Richard Burrows, who formerly led Bank of Ireland Group, as its new chairman.
Mr Burrows succeeds Jan du Plessis, who was announced as the new chairman of Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto in March. Mr Burrows takes up his post on November 1, BAT said.
Mr Burrows was CEO at Irish Distillers from 1978 to 2000 and from there went to Pernod Ricard, where he was co-CEO from 2000 to 2005. He was Governor at Bank of Ireland from 2005 until he stepped down from the post last month.
Last month, BAT beat forecasts with a 25% rise in first-half earnings and predicted strong full-year growth.
