Shares in food group Greencore fell in Dublin by as much as 5% this morning after a move by Ulster Bank yesterday to prevent part of Liam Carroll's stake being sold. The developer holds a 29.5% stake in Greencore.

The shares later recovered to close flat at €1.27.

Ulster Bank's move means that Mr Carroll cannot exercise voting rights in respect of 15.9% of Greencore without the written permission of the bank.

Mr Carroll is due to make a new application for court protection for a number of his companies on Thursday. The developer also holds a 29% stake in ferries group Irish Continental.

The Supreme Court last week rejected an appeal by Liam Carroll against a previous High Court decision not to appoint an examiner to Vantive Holdings and other companies controlled by Mr Carroll.
