Healthcare and pharmaceutical services group United Drug has agreed a deal with Medco Health Solutions to provide home-based pharmacy care services in the UK for patients covered by the country's National Health Service.

The joint venture plans to offer patients treated within the NHS system a range of services including prescription drug dispensing and home delivery, on-site nursing for the administration of oral, injectable and infused agents and case management capabilities.

Homecare pharmacy services currently comprise about £1 billion sterling of the UK's prescription drug spending. Over the past five years, investments associated with these services have grown at an annual rate of over 20%.

The NHS provides healthcare services for more than 95% of the UK's 60 million residents.

United Drug shares closed up eight cent at €1.93 in Dublin.
