The ESB has applied for a 0.2% reduction in average electricity prices for households and businesses.
The proposal was made to the Commission for Energy Regulation, which will make a decision about the proposed reduction in September.
ESB says it is not seeking any price increase for households. For small business, a 0.4% reduction is proposed, while for larger users, the planned fall will be 5.5%.
Earlier this week, Bord Gáis announced that it has applied for a 9.3% reduction in the prices charges to domestic customers and a 13.6% reduction in the prices they charge to small businesses. Any changes will come into effect on October 1.
The proposals have been published on the Commission's website www.CER.ie for consultation and any submissions on the price changes will be considered up until August 24.
