There has been some good news for Element Six workers in Shannon. Last week the company announced that it was closing its manufacturing and distribution section by Christmas with the loss of 370 jobs.
But it has now been learned that - after talks with representatives of the parent company - the company's Irish management has been asked to put together a proposal aimed at saving some of the 370 jobs.
The Irish management team will be working on that proposal in the coming days and are due to return to London for further talks with the international group next week.
Element Six, formerly known as De Beers, supplies diamond supermaterials used for a wide range of activities in the oil and gas, car, construction and mining industries.
Last week, when announcing the job cuts, Element Six said its Shannon operation had the highest manufacturing costs in the whole group.
