US software company SuccessFactors is to set up a new European multilingual business centre in Dundrum in Dublin, creating almost 40 jobs over the next three years.

SuccessFactors specialises in providing systems which hold information on companies' employees.

The Dublin centre will be dealing with its customers in the small and medium-size business markets. It is being set up due to increased customer demand in Europe. SuccessFactors, set up in 2001, has 2,700 customers.

'Dublin's international reputation in multilingual activity, combined with the ready availability of a diversity of multilingual talent in one city, its European air access, and its competitive costs relative to other European locations made it the logical choice for us,' said SuccessFactors CEO Lars Dalgaard.

Sainsbury's to create 200 Newry jobs

The British supermarket group Sainsbury's is creating up to 200 new jobs at the Teleperformance Call Centre in Newry, Co Down.

Staff will provide helpline and customer service facilities for its website. The call centre is based at The Quays shopping centre, where the company already operates a store.

Teleperformance recently secured hundreds of jobs from the NHS in England to operate the swine flu helpline.

These replaced jobs lost by the ending of contracts for eFlow (which operates the barrier free tolls on the M50 and other routes) and for Setanta Sports.

Sainsbury's has also recently taken on more than 100 new staff for their new store in west Belfast store due to open shortly.

Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy said the decision by Sainsbury's was not only a boost to the local economy but also a vote of confidence in the existing staff and management of Teleperformance.

He said Newry and Armagh had a highly motivated and skilled pool of people willing to engage in meaningful employment, and he hoped this decision would encourage more companies to set up base in the area.
