Abbott today created 50 new jobs in Santry in Dublin as it opened its international headquarters for mature business operations.

The new HQ will support the growth of Abbott's mature pharmaceutical brands in key markets, including Europe, Asia, Latin America and Japan.

'This is a strategically important investment by Abbott,' commented its senior vice president Olivier Bohoun.

'We chose Ireland because of our existing presence here, the availability of a highly experienced workforce, proximity to our European affiliates and manufacturing locations for many of our mature products,' he added.

Abbott currently employs over 3,800 people in Ireland in commercial and manufacturing operations in Sligo, Donegal, Longford, Dublin, Tipperary, Cavan and Mayo. It has been in Ireland since 1946.
