Employers' group IBEC has appointed Danny McCoy as its new director general to succeed Turlough O'Sullivan, who announced earlier this year that he was retiring.
Mr McCoy, who takes up the post on July 1, is currently IBEC's director of policy, having joined the body almost four years ago.
Before coming to IBEC, Mr McCoy was a senior research officer at the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and before that, an economist in the Central Bank.
Mr McCoy described his new post as 'a daunting challenge', as Ireland was coming through one of its most turbulent times since the foundation of the state.
