Talks produce Lufthansa Technik agreement

After 11 hours of intensive discussions, management and unions at Lufthansa Technik Airmotive emerged tonight to declare that more than 400 jobs at the aircraft engine maintenance firm were safe.

Managers and union officials have agreed upon a clarification document, which they say will help the employer and staff to interpret agreed new working arrangements. The three trade unions involved, UNITE, TEEU and SIPTU, said the breakthrough had saved jobs at the Rathcoole plant.

The company said the threat of protective notice was now lifted and both sides would work on the detail of implementing the new systems.
