Trips to Ireland fell by 6.3% to a total of 2,010,000 for the first fourth months of the year, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office today.
The CSO figures reveal that overseas trips in the month of April actually increased slightly to 607,800 from 603,900 due to the timing of Easter last year.
Trips here by UK visitors in April fell by 9,800 (3.3%) to 291,400. However, this was more than offset by an increase of 13,300 (6.5%) to 219,300 by residents of other European countries.
Meanwhile, trips abroad by Irish residents in the months from January to April were down by 10.5% to 2,119,200 compared to the same time last year.
Trips overseas by Irish residents fell by 4.2% to 579,400 in April compared to the same month in 2008.
