An Post is continuing to make progress towards its target of delivering 94% of mail throughout Ireland within one working day.
The latest ComReg report on An Post's quality of service performance reveals that 83% of mail was delivered within one working day for the months from January to March. This compares to 78% the same time the previous year.
The ComReg report also shows that 98% of mail was delivered within three working days. ComReg has a target of 99.5% for this category.
ComReg says that mail posted in Dublin for delivery within Dublin saw an improved next working day delivery success rate of 84%, compared with 75% for the same time last year. Delivery outside of Dublin saw a more modest increase from 83% to 85%.
The report noted that the postal service performance may also have been slightly impaired by what it called the exceptional inclement weather conditions seen at the beginning of February.
'It is essential that the rate of improvement is accelerated so that Irish postal consumers can benefit from a similar quality of service as enjoyed by postal consumers in other leading European countries,' commented ComReg Chairman John Doherty.
