Sigmar chief in Newcourt approach

Dublin-listed company Newcourt says the managing director of its recruitment subsidiary Sigmar has indicated that he is looking at buying some or all of its businesses.

Newcourt said no talks had taken place with Adrian McGennis on the possible terms of any offer. Mr McGennis has resigned from Newcourt's board.

Newcourt, which is also involved in providing security services, has also confirmed that talks about its debts are continuing with its main bank.

'The bank has now formally indicated that it considers Newcourt to be in breach of certain of its banking covenants and the board of Newcourt is addressing this as a matter of urgency,' a statement said.

Newcourt, which employs 3,200 people in Ireland, said earlier this month that it would not be releasing its financial results for 2008 until the talks on its debt had been completed.
