A report from consulting group Hewitt Associates says the value of Irish pension funds gained 8.5% last month.
This was the second month of gains in a row, following an increase of 2.6% in March. Hewitt investment consultant Brian Delaney said the 10% rise over the last two months had clawed back the losses in January and February. But Hewitt said pension funds still have a long way to go to recover the losses of the last 18 months.
Hewitt's index of pension fund performance for the first four months of 2009 is now showing a gain of 2.8%.
The Irish stock market was one of the best performers in April, gaining 19.6%, while the UK added 12.9% and the euro zone 13.3%. North American markets were up 10.3%, while the Asia Pacific markets added 12.9%.
