Lufthansa Airmotive - Talks after lay-offs warning

Both sides in the dispute at the Lufthansa Technik Airmotive plant at Rathcoole in Dublin have accepted an invitation to talks from the National Implementation Body.

Management and the three unions at the company are due to meet at Government Buildings tomorrow morning. The future of jobs at the company is in doubt.

The aircraft engine maintenance company yesterday gave workers at Rathcoole protective notice of lay-offs. It said 'up to 150' staff might need to be laid off in the immediate future. In a letter to all staff, it added that its decision was 'regrettable and avoidable'.

Earlier this week, unions rejected a Labour Court recommendation aimed at solving a dispute over cost-cutting at the company.
