More than 600 jobs are being created in Newry, Co Down following the expansion of a company that provides customer services contacts for firms in a range of sectors.
The French-owned firm Teleperformance currently operates two call centres in Newry and Bangor in Co Down.
With the expansion at its site in Newry, it will employ a total of almost 2,000 people.
Plans for 900 new jobs in the North over the next three years were announced yesterday after GEM, a customer support operation, said it would almost double its workforce.
The company is being supported with £5.5m sterling of grant assistance from Invest Northern Ireland.
The company already has operations in Belfast and Derry as well as Hungary. It says this new expansion will involve a new operation at a location which has yet to be decided.
New jobs at Carlow companies
52 new jobs are to be created in Carlow by companies supported by the Carlow County Enterprise Board.
The jobs are at Danelle Recycling Ltd and Homefix Property Solutions Ltd.
Danelle Recycling employs nine people full-time and will create at least two new positions in 2009. Homefix Property Solutions, which is currently at the early start-up stage, aims to create 50 new roles in the company within the coming year.
