US gold futures climbed above $1,000 an ounce today as jittery investors turned to the yellow metal as a safe haven amid tumbling stocks and economic uncertainties.
Gold for April delivery was up $21.30, or 2.2%, at $997.80 an ounce on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange this afternoon after peaking at $1,000.30 which marked the highest price since July 16.
