Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse has reported a full-year loss of CHF8.2 billion (€5.5 billion) for 2008, with most of the losses incurred in the last three months of the year.

Switzerland's second biggest bank, which has suffered damages in the financial turmoil, said it lost CHF6 billion in the last quarter alone, but it added that it had made a 'strong start' to 2009.

Chief executive Brady Dougan said the bank had positioned its businesses to be 'less susceptible' to any persisting problems in financial markets.
