Drinks group Diageo is to review its plan to invest €650m in a new brewing centre as a result of the current economic downturn.
Diageo Ireland said last year that it was planning to build a new brewery on a 73-acre site in Leixlip, Co Kildare, as well as renovate St James's Gate in Dublin.
A statement today said Diageo had decided to decided to 'conduct a re-evaluation of this brewing investment programme in order to ensure its scope remains appropriate in the changed economic environment'.
It said the review would run for several months and it would inform staff and other interested parties of the outcome as soon as possible.
