The ESB has concluded its deal to sell 20% of its power generation assets to Spanish utility company Endesa for €450m. The assets include the Tarbert and Great Island stations.

The sale is part of an ESB agreement with the energy regulator to reduce its dominant position in the marketplace.

ESB CEO Padraig McManus says the deal brings an energy company of major international standing into the Irish electricity market.

'ESB looks forward to now competing with Endesa in the Irish market,' he said.
