Bernard Madoff sent valuables including diamond Cartier and Tiffany watches to relatives and others in violation of a court order and should be immediately jailed because he is now a flight risk, prosecutors said in court papers released today.
Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to revoke Madoff's bail, saying his continued release 'presents a clear risk of further obstruction of justice'.
Prosecutors earlier made their case at a court hearing on Monday. The court papers contained additional details about the jewelry transfers that prosecutors say were violations of Madoff's bail conditions.
Madoff was arrested last month and charged with what authorities say was an investment scam that cheated clients of as much as $50 billion. Madoff, who is under house arrest, has not yet formally responded to the charge against him in court.
