A company in Sligo which produces precision components for cars like Audi, Mercedes and Ford is cutting back production because of what it says has been a dramatic drop in car sales throughout Europe and North America.
G Bruss, which employs 250 people in Sligo, is temporarily shutting down production on certain days during November and December.
The company says it is reducing production by four days in November and eight days in December to avoid over-production and the decision to do so has been taken solely as a reaction to the reduction in demand for its customer's products.
The company says that Bruss Sligo remains profitable. Management is confident that the continued effort made by the workforce has put the facility in a strong position to see it through the current crisis without any major impact on long term employment.
