Management at Bausch and Lomb in Waterford city met with union representatives this morning to discuss cost cutting measures at the company.
It is understood that workers at the eye-care products company have been told that the facility will close for Christmas on December 18, three days earlier than normal. Workers can take this time as holidays or unpaid leave.
The workers were also told that the company will be looking at other cost reduction measures in the near future.
There have been no reports of any job losses at the Waterford plant.
