The joint liquidators of Westmeath car parts maker Iralco have completed the sale of its business and assets to Athenry-based manufacturer C&F Tooling.

John McStay and Tom Rogers of insolvency firm McStay Luby said the sale secures the jobs of more than 300 people at Collinstown, Co Westmeath.

Iralco, which has operated in Ireland since l964, is one of the longest established businesses in the Irish car components sector.

In August, Iralco workers voted overwhelmingly to accept proposals from the new owners, which included some redundancies.

Liquidators were appointed in April when the plant closed its doors for one week prior to reopening after discussions with workers to give it the best possible chance of finding a buyer.
