Oil price plunges $10 after US vote

Oil prices dropped $10 a barrel tonight after the US House of Representatives rejected a $700 billion rescue package for the financial sector.

US crude fell $10 to $96.89 a barrel, while London Brent crude traded down $9.13 to $94.41.

The mounting economic crisis has stirred concerns about demand for oil, helping drag prices from a record high above $147 a barrel in July.

Traders also were watching the slow recovery of US oil infrastructure following after Hurricane Ike hit the US Gulf of Mexico.
