A US eye care company has announced plans to create 186 new jobs at its Cork city plant.
Alcon Incorporated has just completed a major expansion of its Cork operation and it is now set to invest a further €21m there.
The company is the world's largest ophthalmic company producing eyecare pharmaceuticals, surgical devices and products such as lenses. Its worldwide sales last year amounted to over $5.5 billion.
Its Cork operation currently employs some 200 people making surgical intraocular lenses - lenses that replace the eye's natural lens following cataract surgery.
The company has just completed a €15.6m investment in the Cork city plant and this morning announced that with the help of IDA Ireland it is to invest a further €21m, creating 186 new jobs.
