UK's Nationwide eyes Irish market

Britain's Nationwide Building Society has said it is putting plans in place to operate in the Republic. Nationwide says it intends to set up a business here subject to approval from regulators.

The society says it will initially offer savings products by post, phone and online. Nationwide is the UK's second largest savings provider.

It says it will make a further announcement, once approval has been given by the UK's Financial Services Authority and the Financial Regulator.
