The Department of Energy, Communications and Natural Resources has offered oil and gas firm Providence Resources and Star Energy a three-year licensing option in the Kish Bank Basin.
Star Energy is a subsidiary of Petronas, the Malaysian National Oil Company.
The two companies have a 50/50 joint venture for gas storage initiatives offshore Ireland.
