Oil prices retreated this evening after an early bounce, pressured by weaker economic data from the US, the world's top energy consumer.
US crude was down $1.89 at $124.88 a barrel, while London Brent was $2.37 down at $124.73.
Figures showed that the US economy grew more slowly than expected in the second quarter, adding to concerns over the health of its economy. Oil had rallied strongly on Wednesday after a surprise fall in US petrol stockpiles last week.
This followed a fall of about 18% from the market's record peak above $147 on July 11, partly due to concerns over weaker demand.
