German inflation has dug in at a high level this month after reaching 3.3% in June, provisional figures released by regional statistics services show today.
The eastern state of Saxony reported that consumer prices jumped by 3.6% on an annual basis, and by 0.6% from June. Brandenburg, which surrounds but does not include Berlin, showed a 12-month increase of 3.2% in July, and a monthly rise of 0.5%.
Results from six German states are used to forecast nationwide inflation in the biggest European economy, and figures posted yesterday told the same story.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populated German state, inflation hit 3.3% in July, with vacation services such as hotel rooms and restaurant bills adding to relentless increases in the cost of energy and food in general.
