Aer Lingus is to increase its fuel surcharge on four of its long-haul routes to the US from next Wednesday July 30.

The airline said the rise would apply to longer routes only, with charges for flights to and from New York, Boston and Washington remaining unchanged.

Aer Lingus blamed the increases on a 50% increase in jet fuel prices since the start of the year.

On flights to Chicago, the charge will go up from €75/£58 to €85/£68. Flights to Orlando will increase from €85/$125/£68 to €95/$140/£75. Flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles will rise from €100/$135/£78 to €110/$150/£85.

The Los Angeles route is being suspended in November. Aer Lingus corporate affairs director Enda Corneille said the airline would continue to keep the situation under review.
