New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that factory gate prices rose by 0.9% in June, compared to a rise of 0.7% the same time last year. The CSO says this resulted in an annual fall of 2.8% in June.
The CSO said that the price of other food products rose by 7% in June, while medical, precision and optical instruments, watches and clocks rose by 3.6% and meat and meat products saw a 1.4% rise. There was also a decrease of 2.5% in the price of dairy products.
Today's figures also reveal that in the year since June 2007, energy products increased by 5.4%. This included a jump of 36.6% in the price of petroleum products. In June of this year, energy products were up by 1.6%, while petroleum fuels saw a 4.9% increase.
All building and construction material prices increased by 4.3% in the year since June 2007, the CSO added. They rose by 0.5% last month.
