Origin buys 20% stake in East European firm

Origin Enterprises, the company spun off from food group IAWS last year, today announced that it has bought a 20% stake in Continental Farmers Group, based in Poland and the Ukraine.

The deal for the producer of high value farm crops cost Origin €12m, the company said. The investment was funded through existing bank facilities.

Origin will appoint two representatives to the board of the company.

The company said the investment in the group provides geographic extension opportunities for Masstock, the group's agronomy and farming systems advisory business, which was bought in February.

Shares in the company closed up five cent at €5 in Dublin.
