A meeting of 600 staff of insurance group Hibernian has voted to ballot for industrial action in opposition to the company's plans to phase out up to 580 jobs over three years.
The company, which announced the plans yesterday, said the jobs would be moving to India. The workers, members of the Unite union, also passed a motion of no confidence in management.
Speaking after the meeting in Dublin, Unite national officer Jerry Shanahan said the ballot would start immediately.
'Management are playing fast and loose with the loyalty of its customer base and we cannot stand idly by and allow sustainable jobs to drift away,' he said.
