Oil prices dip below $100

World oil prices slid under $100 per barrel today, extending recent sharp losses on mounting concerns that slowing global growth could dampen energy demand.

New York's main oil contract lost 72 cents to reach $100.88 dollars a barrel after earlier touching as low as $99.55. Yesterday it had slumped by $4.04.

London's Brent North Sea crude fell 39 cents to $99.91 per barrel. It earlier tumbled as low as $98.99.

The market is still concerned over slowing fuel demand in the US, analysts said.

Crude oil prices have fallen since Friday when the US confirmed that its economy grew by only 0.6% in last year's fourth quarter. Economic momentum slowed despite the US Federal Reserve's interest rate cuts.
