The Financial Regulator says that it is possible to save up to €370 on annual home insurance, depending on the value of the property and its location.

The Regulator today published new online home insurance cost comparisons on a range of properties on its website, www.itsyourmoney.ie.

It found that quotes on a three-bedroom semi-detached house in Dublin 15 ranged from €409 to €705, while it could cost between €158 and €301 to insure a two-bedroom cottage in Co Monaghan.

Commenting on the comparisons, the Regulator's Head of Consumer Information, Sharon Donnery, said: 'With many people concerned about managing their household budgets, these online home insurance cost comparisons will come as good news.

She also said that homeowners should not make their decision based solely on cost.

'The online cost comparisons show that contents insurance is quite affordable, but you shouldn't make a choice based on the cheapest quote,' she warned.

'The cover and benefits included in each policy are different, so ask your insurer or broker what exactly is covered.'
