Official figures show that Germany's annual inflation rate stood at 2.8% in February.
The statistics agency Destatis said this was the same as in January, although consumer prices rose by 0.5% in the month.
As expected, energy prices were largely responsible for the increases, with the cost of home heating fuel soaring by 33% over the year, and motor fuels up by 12%.
The introduction of university tuition fees also pushed up the education sub-category significantly, Destatis said.
