McGuinness wants clear benefits from WTO deal

Minister for Trade & Commerce John McGuinness has repeated Ireland's serious concerns about the negotiations for a new agreement on liberalising world trade.

Following a meeting of ministers in Brussels, Mr McGuinness said many European countries agree that substantial improvements to recent proposals are needed if the negotiations are to move forward.

The Minister stressed the importance of clear benefits for Irish business emerging from any deal. He said the EU must be aware that an unsatisfactory WTO deal poses the risk of serious damage to European agriculture.
