Tallaght based company Microprint has announced it is to close its plant in April with the loss of 130 jobs. The company prints magazines such as the RTE Guide, Woman's Way, IT, U and Cara.

The news comes a month after Jacobs Fruitfield said it will be pulling out of West Dublin on a phased basis with the loss of 230 jobs.

Microprint said that declining volumes in the computer manual customer base, uncertainty over key contracts, competitive pressures from UK based magazine printers and the company's high cost structures are the main reasons for closing the plant.

The company said it could not sustain a further period of heavy losses in a 'fiercely competitive market'.

'When allied to a growing uncertainty around future customer demand and the international sourcing of print, regrettably the print managing and manufacturing business of Microprint has no viable future going forward,' said Managing Director Alan Heatley.
