Construction company Ascon has won a €10.5m contract to begin flood relief work in Mallow, Co Cork, early next month.
The Office of Public Works announced this afternoon that Ascon had been awarded the contract for the first phase of a three-part flood relief scheme in the frequently-flooded town.
The scheme will begin in the northern end of the town and willl take one year to complete. It includes construction of new walls, embankments, and work to the town's drainage system.
The overall scheme is expected to cost in the region of €42m.
