BMW gives job cut details

The German car maker BMW has confirmed that it will cut 8,100 jobs worldwide as part of a plan aimed at boosting its profitability.

On February 6, BMW unveiled details of a broad cost-savings plan  that included a sharp cut in staff costs but did not provide details on the number of jobs it planned to eliminate.

It had said in late December that 'several thousand posts' would be cut, a move that - along with productivity gains - was aimed at reducing costs by up to €500m a year.
