William Hill not chasing Paddy Power

William Hill's new chief executive said today that he did not plan to buy up Irish rival Paddy Power and said he expects to complete an overhaul of the firm's technology by November.

A recent analyst note touted the idea that William Hill could buy Paddy Power to boost its business and help it overcome its technology woes.

'There's nothing in that (idea of buying Paddy Power), I actually don't see any logic in it,' Ralph Topping said during a conference call.

Topping said he had been encouraged by the progress Orbis, the gaming software firm building its new system, was making.

"The project is in very good shape. Orbis are telling us it's in significantly better shape than other projects they have done. I would like to, and would expect to, see it delivered in November this year,' he added.
